Left fielder Rick Ankiel blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI and Nick Blackburn
mowed down 10 Richmond batters as the Riverton Raptors topped the Richmond
Mudcats by a score of 8 to 2 at AT&T Park.
Blackburn(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for Riverton. He
surrendered 5 hits and no walks in 7 innings. The pitchers took over after
the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.
Justin Verlander(0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed 6 runs and 4 hits in 2/3
of an inning. Blackburn, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance
noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what
good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels
great!'
