Shortstop Derek Jeter had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Coors Field where the Riverton
Raptors beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 15 to 13.
Vermont fell behind quickly as the Riverton offense came through in the first
inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Jeter kicked off the action
when he slapped a base-hit. Ryan Langerhans was next and he laced a one-base
hit. Torii Hunter then drew a walk to load the bases. Albert Pujols
followed and he lined a single. Jack Cust got his chance to keep things
going, but he went down on strikes. Steve Holm added to the rally and drew a
walk to load the bases. Geoff Blum stepped up to the plate and he hit a deep
fly. Riverton kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning with 7 runs on 8
hits. Vermont made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
The victory went to Brandon Webb(16-8) who went 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6
runs. The loss was charged to Mike Hampton(1-3). He got hit hard, allowing
17 hits and 6 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
