Bobby Abreu cracked a homer and Kevin Slowey came through with a solid 7 and
two third innings as the Roeland Park Royals defeated the Riverton Raptors 4
to 2 at RFK STADIUM.
Roeland Park scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 8th inning with 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Abreu started the scoring when he smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 1st of the season). Garret Anderson stepped up to
the plate and he lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 1st of the season).
Lyle Overbay then lined a one-base hit. Aaron Rowand stepped in and he
grounded into a double play. Chris Snyder was next to the plate, but was
promptly struck out. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
7th inning.
The victory was credited to Ramon Troncoso(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Ryan Dempster(1-1) was charged with the loss. He
surrendered 6 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings.
